An interactive experience conceived around the act of being tattooed — presented in its short film version at the Bargehouse, London OXO Tower.
During the tattooing session, the subject's physiological state is continuously monitored and translated into the environment around them. A Galvanic Skin Response device measures the intensity of emotional arousal and drives ambient lighting, which shifts from blue to red in real time — low to high, calm to heightened. Simultaneously, the heartbeat is captured live through a microphone stethoscope and transformed into an ambient soundscape. The result is a feedback loop: the tattooed subject shapes the environment, and the environment reflects back an expanded image of their inner state.
The entire session is recorded in POV through an action camera mounted on the subject's head and archived online. The tattoo itself becomes an interface: once scored, it can be scanned through a dedicated app using image recognition to retrieve and relive the specific experience it was made in.
The work positions itself within a broader conversation around tattooing as ritual rather than service — alongside contemporary practitioners such as Mary Coble with "Blood Script", Michele Servadio with "Body of Reverbs", Valerio Cancellier and Cammy Stewart with the "Brutal Black Project" — questioning whether the outcome of the tattooing practice is the mark on the skin, or the experience that produced it.
