Solo un sogno

Client: Teatro Stabile del Veneto
Year: 2025
Location: Padua, Verona, IT
Category: Lighting Design

A selection of lighting atmospheres and visual transitions from Solo un sogno, a contemporary reinterpretation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, adapted by Tommaso Fermariello and directed by Stefano Cordella.

Sintetico Machines developed the lighting design and live operation for the project, working across shifting light environments, spatial transitions and atmospheric states.

Created within the production framework of Accademia Teatrale Carlo Goldoni and Teatro Stabile del Veneto – Teatro Nazionale, the work explores the tension between institutional Athens and the nocturnal dimension of the forest.

Within an essential stage setup, light became the primary scenic device, defining spaces, thresholds and atmospheres throughout the performance. A translucent veil divided the stage of Teatro Maddalene into two coexisting areas, creating a visual portal between the frontal space and the rear section, located in the apse of the former deconsecrated church. The lighting design moves between press-conference aesthetics, intimate interior scenes, nocturnal woodland atmospheres and a ritual rave inhabited by the creatures of the forest, using rhythm, contrast, backlight and architectural separation to construct evolving perceptual states across the performance.
